FASHION DESIGN
Every industry has its share of experts and the fashion industry is no exception. The fashion designers are experts in the fashion industry. They are the ones who understand, anticipate and hence design fashion. Fashion is what these fashion designers design it to be. As these designers keep evolving their ideas, fashion keeps evolving.
Fashion design is basically an art, where in the designer has to design clothing and lifestyle accessories. Also, the clothing and accessories that they design should be largely influenced by the culture and the society of a specific time. In that sense then, fashion designing is not just an art, it is an applied art.
Fashion designing should not be confused with costume designing. Costume designing deals with designing costumes which become obsolete after one or two seasons. Full time fashion designers are the one who work for a brand of clothing and design exclusively for each collection of that brand. In contrast, freelance designers are the one who design clothes and sell their designs to fashion houses. Large designer brands like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren usually have a team of fashion designers working coherently under the direction of a design director.
